11 New Catalogues Reviewed This Month

New catalogues.

New catalogues.

For November we review 11 new bookseller catalogues. This month's selection has an international flavor, reflective of the fact that the internet has broken down national borders when it comes to the book trade. You can readily buy and sell anywhere, and shipping around the world is no longer a barrier either.

English bookseller Peter Harrington offers a collection of 60 special rare books and manuscripts. Daniel Crouch Rare Books, also of Britain (but now opening a New York gallery), has a spectacular selection of cartology. From Scotland, William Cowan Bookseller offers a catalogue of Irish first editions.

Turning to continental Europe, Swiss bookseller Erasmushaus has a selection of rare and mostly antiquarian books. Austrian shop Antiquariat Kainbacher features travel and ethnology. Heading to that continent on the other side of the world, Australian bookseller Hordern House features Pacific voyages and Australiana.

America is represented by five booksellers. The William Reese Company is focused on the Federal Era, the time from 1783-1803. Walkabout Books features Americana, exploration, travel & tourism. From the Kelmscott Bookshop we find artists' books, private press, art, literature, first editions & more. Lorne Bair Rare Books presents its 25th catalogue of radical, occasionally moderate material on social movements. The Brick Row Bookshop offers a miscellany of distinctive works.
